Using Ad Aware to Remove Ads and SpyWare from your PC

Computers that are connected to the Internet are frequently plagued by unwanted advertisements and web pages that leave programs on their PCs that report computer and browsing information back to the creator of the web page.  Such programs are commonly called SpyWare.

A side effect of SpyWare programs is that they frequently slow down the operation of host computers.

Ad-aware is a free program by Lavasoft, that searches for and removes such software.   To download, install and use Ad-aware follow these steps:

• Click on this link or enter it into your browser:  http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
• Take a minute to read the information about Ad-aware.
• Click on the link on the right of the Ad-aware page that is labeled: DOWNLOAD
• Seveal of the sites that are listed will be blocked by Bess - the easiest of the sites that is not blocked is Net Secutiry - click on this link or the link on the download page

• Once on Net Security's web page click on Download and save the file to your C: drive.  Make sure you note where it is being saved.  The file is called aaw6.exe - note that the name may change as new versions are released.
• Once the download is complete find the file and double click on it to install the program
• After Ad-aware is installed you will find it in the Windows program list under Lavasoft Ad-aware 6
• You should be able to run the program without changing any settings to remove ads and spy ware
• Read over the help files if you want to learn more about Ad-aware's settings
• Run the program every few weeks to keep your PC clear
